The Fake Standards set up by Futile Indian Daily Soaps

-By Alveera Hafeez

If you watch Indian Daily Soaps, you must have seen that the tasks are divided between the two genders on the basis of genders, in other words gender stereotypes. Household tasks are as usual done by women whereas the men go out to earn.

These standards set up by Bollywood actually affects our daily life. We all have a full family background either of Doordarshan, where everyone lives happily or Star plus parivaar, where everyone is jealous of the other getting successful but still sticking up a fake smile on their lips.

Now, as I was talking about the gender stereotypes set up by these daily soaps. Yes, there is a independent girl in every serial but her independence is soon confiscated after marriage, and yes no matter how successful she is, after marriage her mother-in-law throws her into the kitchen and other household work, because to them a girl is as stupid as a donkey. Afterall, girls are weak, and who writes such serials? Means, I don't understand why we have to divide the work if a girl wishes to earn let her do and if a man wants to cook and raise his family let him do.

The Bollywood standards had made the society think that girls belong to the kitchen, and boys, you know the dialogue 'Mard ko dard nahi hota' I just want to ask one question why? Are you robots? Or you want to show off your man power? I think we all should do one thing, we should let such 'mards' showcase their talent in gyms and all they will help so much, they can be used instead of punching bags, as they can't feel the pain.

The Bollywood makers standing for women empowerment, how can it happen when you have only set up such ill standards for women, to obey whatever his husband which according to your movies is equal to God, himself. I just want to ask one question, does God drink? Or does God beat you up if he gets angry or irritated from some other problems? Or does God make you work like a donkey? Does he? Means if the husband is God for his wife, then the wife must be Goddess. Yes, she must be, don't look at me like that. And if she ain't then how come husband is a God? I reckon women forgive their husbands more than the husbands do, so the position of Goddess must be given to them, if you give such a husband the position of God.

The point is in the name of gender equality we get freedom before marriage, what about after marriage? Why is the woman expected to sacrifice her dreams? She also has one life, I reckon, and she has the full right to live as she wills. So let her live as she wants. Let the girl live!

These stupid serials have made the society think that when a girl has studied a lot, she becomes too outspoken but the reality is she actually says what is right, she says the truth, she takes her stand and that is where the problem arises. You know old traditions, auratei ghungat mei paida ho, or usi mei mar jaaye the tendency of our society. The women who are successful and are independent, that isn't because of society, it's because of her own efforts. Girls should not do night duty, and what about your boys, who spend  the whole night outside home, not working, rather drinking, smoking, doing weird things, going to clubs. All the problem comes when a girl goes out in the night, and your boys, who have become like beasts. What about them?

So, just stop these, hippocratic standards. Let the girls live as they want, don't expect things from them. Adapt to changes, and please open up your closed minds. That's all.
